| | | | | Frankfurt, Germany – Royal Philips Electronics (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG) today Philips launches its new MASTER LED lamp range. This range features the latest LUXEON â Rebel LED technology and is a quality alternative for incandescent (GLS), halogen and CFL lamps in general lighting applications. It benefits to retail and hospitality sector owners and managers who want to reduce the energy consumption of their hotels, pubs and clubs but will not compromise on quality perception of light. These sectors currently use various existing lighting technologies; typically incandescent (GLS), halogen and CFL, but all have limitations. MASTER LED combines the benefits of the older technologies, but with none of their disadvantages. For example, compared with standard dichroic low wattage halogen lamps and incandescent spot lamps, the energy saving is up to 80%, yet life is very long: up to 45,000 hours. |
MASTER LED also saves money by avoiding high maintenance costs due to its long life. Being solid-state and near zero-maintenance, the lamp is ideal for use in 24/7 applications such as lobbies, stairways, corridors and car parks. Not only that, sector owners and managers can also enhance their environmental credibility, in part because of the high energy saving, but also because the lamp contains no mercury or lead. Therefore, they conform with the Restriction of use of Hazardous Substances Directive (RohS) requirements.
Other sectors that will benefit from the new lamp are institutions and Government buildings, which often have significant CO2 reduction targets to meet in order to fight climate change. Cutting energy consumption also cuts CO2 emission.
Philips, with its Lumileds brand, is the global market leader in LEDs. The LED used is the 7W LUXEON â Rebel – the smallest surface mountable power LED available, offering industry best lumens / package light output, with excellent colour rendition. The benefits are many. LEDs can last up to 45,000 hours with 70% lumen maintenance. This is typically around 50 times longer life than standard incandescent lamps – a significant money saving benefit. In addition, LEDs produce a cool beam with no UV or IR radiation, very important where foodstuffs and other retail products are concerned. The clearly defined beam means that all the light goes in the intended direction with no wasteful spill. These new lamps also start instantly, unlike CFL lamps.
MASTER LED provides a great opportunity for innovation where creative lighting design schemes are required, yet has been designed as a fully retrofit lamp. It can therefore replace current GU 10 base lamps without needing to replace existing luminaires, saving spending unnecessary money. The full compatibility with existing lamp fittings makes fitting very simple.
The GU10 reflector and NR63 style lamps can be used for general lighting, downlighting, task and spotlighting in the hotel and retail sectors. The GU10 can even be used in the home as a downlighter. The E27 bulb has broadly similar applications, but not in retail.
Finally, Philips’ MASTER LED lamp is a ‘Green Flagship’ product – the best environmental choice when measured against either its competition, or in application.
