| | | | | The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (the HIMSS) is the healthcare industry's membership organization exclusively focused on providing global leadership for the optimal use of healthcare information technology (IT) and management systems for the betterment of healthcare. It represents more than 20,000 individual members and over 300 corporate members. The HIMSS is currently holding its annual conference in the Big Easy—New Orleans, Louisiana. The organizers expect attendance to hit the 25,000 mark during the four-day event. As one of the exhibition’s sponsors, Philips is there displaying our healthcare and medical products. We’ll also be showcasing concept designs for a new, innovative product: the Mobile Clinical Assistant. The Philips Mobile Clinical Assistant (MCA) will enable nurses and physicians to improve bedside patient care by using an integrated, wireless device connected to patient information stored in electronic medical records. The MCA is a new category of mobile point-of-care devices. It was designed with input from clinicians and through clinical workflow studies, as well as interviews and research conducted by Intel Corporation. The portable device is easy to use, meaning it will require minimal training. It provides important benefits to nurses and physicians by helping to reduce medication errors, positively identifying staff and patients, filling out charts, recording vital signs, writing reports and validating blood transfusions. It also closely monitors how wounds are healing. The MCA is a prime example of Sense and Simplicity because it combines technology with usability and it is designed around the way healthcare professionals work when visiting patients. The MCA will go into production in the fourth quarter of this year. |
