Gerald E. McGinnis

Gerald E. McGinnis

Chairman of the Board and Advanced Technology Officer Respironics

 

Jerry McGinnis founded Respironics in 1976. He served as president and chief executive officer of the company for 18 years until elected to chairman in November 1994.

 

Prior to his involvement with Respironics, McGinnis worked at Westinghouse Electric Corporation for 11 years where he participated in a variety of health related projects. While serving as the manager of the Bioengineering Department, he also was involved in projects that included the artificial heart, heart-assist devices, and the sensing and monitoring equipment for the measurement of blood and respiratory gases.

 

Following his service at Westinghouse, McGinnis worked at Allegheny General Hospital (1969-1971) where he was head of the Surgical Research Department. In 1971, McGinnis founded his first company - Lanz Medical Products. Simultaneous to his work at Lanz, McGinnis served in the Critical Care Department at the Presbyterian University Hospital in Pittsburgh, where his work focused on methods of increasing applications of technology in critical care.

 

McGinnis earned an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois and a master's degree in the same discipline from the University of Pittsburgh.

President and Chief Executive Officer

 

John L. Miclot became President and CEO of Respironics, Inc., on December 1, 2003. In November 2002 he was appointed the company’s Chief Strategic Officer responsible for developing and implementing strategic business and growth initiatives, both domestically and internationally, for each of Respironics’ four divisions. In May 2003, he was elected to the Board of Directors.

 

Prior to his position as Chief Strategic Officer he was the President of the Homecare Division from July 1999 to November 2002, where he oversaw strategic direction, sales and marketing, operations as well as research and development for the company’s largest division. Miclot joined Respironics in 1998 when it acquired Healthdyne Technologies where he had served as Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing from 1995-1998. He was appointed Group Vice President, Sleep Disorders, and was quickly promoted to Senior Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Manufacturing.


Miclot earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing from the University of Iowa. He is currently a member of the Young Presidents Organization.

Daniel J. Bevevino

Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

 

Dan Bevevino joined Respironics in 1988. During his tenure with the company, Bevevino has served as manager of cost accounting, 1988 to 1990; controller, 1990 to 1994; chief financial officer, 1994 to current; and vice president, appointed in May 1996.

 

Prior to his affiliation with the company, Bevevino, a certified public accountant, spent five years with the international accounting firm of Ernst & Young where he was audit manager. His responsibilities included planning, supervising, and reviewing all aspects of audit fieldwork on various industrial and healthcare audit engagements. He also assisted with on-campus and office recruiting efforts for the firm.

 

A Pennsylvania native, Bevevino earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration with concentration in accounting from Duquesne University. He also has a master of business administration degree with a concentration in finance from the University of Notre Dame. Bevevino also participated in Notre Dame’s London Program – one semester of international corporate case analysis under British faculty.

Steven P. Fulton

Vice President and General Counsel

 

Steve Fulton joined Respironics in 1995. Throughout his tenure with the company, Fulton has served as Vice President and General Counsel. He also served as Vice President of Human Resources for the company between 1996 and 1998.

 

Prior to joining Respironics, Fulton was a partner in the law firm of Reed Smith LLP, where he concentrated his practice on civil litigation, privacy matters, and labor relations issues. He also worked extensively in connection with mergers and acquisitions. Prior to attending law school, he worked in an engineering capacity for Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

 

A Pennsylvania native, Fulton received his Juris Doctorate degree, cum laude, from the Harvard University School of Law in 1984. He completed his undergraduate studies at Carnegie-Mellon University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Mechanical Engineering and Engineering and Public Policy in 1980.

Susan A. Lloyd

Vice President, Respiratory Drug Delivery

 

Susan Lloyd became vice president of Respironics' Asthma and Allergy Division in 1999. Prior to joining the company, she served as vice president of sales and marketing for Healthdyne Technologies since 1994 and for HealthScan Products, Inc. since 1990. From 1990 to 1999, she developed the asthma and allergy business's first direct sales organization, established a national distribution network, negotiated several co-marketing agreements, introduced three new peak flow meter brands and entered the MDI spacer market.

 

Prior to her association with Respironics, Lloyd was employed by the Apothecary Publishing Company, the Lemmon Pharmacal Company and Becton Dickinson and Co.
As director of business development for Becton Dickinson's AcuteCare Division in 1986, she focused on integrating the newly acquired Deseret Operating Room Products Division and leading the Division's activities to identify and acquire new technologies and products. Two years later Lloyd became director of marketing for this Division.

 

Lloyd earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Boston University.

Craig B. Reynolds

Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

 

Craig Reynolds has been an officer and director of Respironics since the completion of the merger between the company and Healthdyne Technologies, Inc. on February 11, 1998. In August 1999, during the reorganization of the company, Reynolds assumed the responsibility of executive vice president and chief operating officer.

 

Prior to joining Respironics, Reynolds served as president (since 1987) of Healthdyne Technologies and chief executive officer (since 1993). Before that time, January 1985 to December 1986, he served as president of the Healthdyne Cardiovascular Division. Between January 1981 to December 1984 he served as vice president of business and technology development of the Technologies Division of Healthdyne. Prior to his association with Healthdyne, Reynolds was employed by Puritan-Bennett Corporation and Procter & Gamble.

 

A native of New York, Reynolds earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA in marketing from Georgia State University.

Derek Smith

Derek Smith

President, Hospital Group

 

Derek Smith became President of the Hospital Group of Respironics in August 2005. Prior to joining the company, he served as Senior Vice President of Operations and Technology Development for McKesson Health Solutions. In this role he was responsible for all operations and technology development. From 2000 to 2004, Smith served as Senior Vice President/General Manager of McKesson’s Access Health business unit which provided various Medical Management Services including Disease Management.

 

Smith began his 26-year career with E.Merck in 1979 as a Research Biochemist working on the development of various novel analytical biochemical tools. After three years, he moved into Marketing and was named Product Manager for HPLC products as well as some biochemical reagents. Smith joined Ohmeda as a Product Manager in 1985 and spent 15 years working in positions of increasing responsibility in development, marketing and service. From 1997 to 1999, Smith served as Vice President and General Manager of the Configured Patient Monitoring and Supplies business unit for Datex-Ohmeda. 

 

Smith earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Newcastle University – United Kingdom.

Donald J. Spence

Donald J. Spence

President, Sleep and Home Respiratory Group

 

Donald J. Spence joined Respironics in 2005 as President of the Sleep and Home Respiratory Group, the company’s largest business. Spence has extensive senior management experience in global businesses covering sales and marketing, manufacturing, finance, and R&D. Throughout his 27-year career, he has held positions of increasing responsibility with companies such as GKN plc, Datex-Ohmeda, Inc. and The BOC Group plc.

 

Spence spent his tenure at BOC Group plc, where he served in positions of increasing responsibility in their medical equipment business – Ohmeda. Key positions held from 1987 until 1998 included Business Unit Controller, Director of Field Operations, General Manager of Service and Vice President of Global Marketing. Spence served in several senior executive positions with GKN, plc. From 1998 to 2001 he was Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing for GKN Sinter Metals located in Auburn Hills, Michigan. He held global responsibility for all sales and marketing activities for the division and established the North American sales and marketing team, which did not exist prior to 1998.

 

Spence earned a Master of Arts in Economics from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Michigan State University.

Geoffrey C. Waters

Geoffrey C. Waters

President, International Group

 

Geoff Waters joined Respironics in 1996 as vice president of customer satisfaction. He was appointed vice president of the company's International Division in 1996 and president in 2000.

 

Waters began his career at Kryptonics Inc., in 1976 where he held various positions with increasing responsibility in the areas of sales and marketing. In 1984 he joined Lifecare International as director of sales and marketing and quickly moved into the position of vice president of sales and field operations. In 1989 he was promoted to senior vice president and two years later Waters became executive vice president of Lifecare and assumed the additional responsibility for the company's engineering and manufacturing departments. He was appointed president and chief operating officer of Lifecare International in 1994. Waters played an instrumental role in preparing for the sale of Lifecare International to Respironics in 1996.

 

Waters earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Colorado. He obtained his MBA in accounting and finance from Regis University. He also serves as president of Colorado's Medical Device Association.

Dr. David P. White

Chief Medical Officer

 

David P. White, M.D. joined Respironics in May, 2006 as the Company’s first Chief Medical Officer. In this role, Dr. White is responsible for clinical research strategies and programs, advising senior management on key medical issues, and serving as a liaison between Respironics and the sleep and respiratory medical communities.

 

Dr. White is board-certified in sleep disorders medicine, internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine. Until recently, he served as Director of Clinical Sleep Disorders Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and remains as a Professor of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School, both in Boston. He has held many leadership roles within professional sleep and pulmonary societies, including serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal SLEEP.

 

Dr. White holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia and his Medical Degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. He did his postdoctoral internship and residency in Internal Medicine, as well as a pulmonary fellowship, at the University of Colorado Health Science Center.
