Gold Coast Hospital Prepares for 2012 Facility Upgrade with Philips Cardiovascular Information System

August 7, 2009

Gold Coast and Sydney, Australia – Philips Healthcare has officially entered the cardiovascular information systems (CVIS) market in Australia with the announcement that the Gold Coast Hospital has chosen its comprehensive system to grow its existing cardiac system capabilities in line with the development of the new 750-bed Gold Coast University Hospital to be completed in 2012.

The Gold Coast University Hospital facility will provide complex care, specialty services and clinical support as well as benefit from its new extended tertiary research and teaching opportunities.  Over the next 3 years the hospital is focused on increasing its cardiac capabilities to include multiple cardiac catheter labs, cardiac ultrasound and echocardiography systems and the Philips CVIS software will assist with the cardiac care cycle.

“The modern practice of cardiology is complex, comprehensive and diverse due to the multiple different investigational and therapeutic modalities at play both in the clinical as well as academic realms.  Managing a large and busy cardiology practice in a tertiary hospital is challenging,” said Professor Rohan Jayasinghe, Chair of Cardiology Griffith University and Chair of Medicine Bond University.  “This is where a versatile, efficient and user-friendly cardiovascular information system becomes extremely important to provide the right solutions for effective and seamless operations.”

Philips CVIS software provides a solution for cardiologists, clinicians and administrative staff to manage the care of a patient across the cardiac care cycle. From a clinical perspective cardiologists can view a patient’s scans or exam results via any networked PC and file a report that is later accessible by any of the patient’s other care-providers within the system. In addition to these needs being met the CVIS system can also integrate Cardiac PACS Xcelera for image access and exporting of cath lab and echo reports.

“As a healthcare solutions provider our goal is to enable our users to provide the best support of their patients through every step of the cardiac care cycle.  We consider the integration of the Philips CVIS solution across all areas of Gold Coast Hospital’s cardiac facilities as a best in class example of what can be achieved,” said Harry van Dyk, Senior Vice President, Philips Healthcare Australasia.

The Philips CVIS solution also allows for integration with hospital information systems (HIS) providing a solution for administrative scheduling and workflow for the Cathlab and haemodynamic integration.
