“This year, authentic products were clearly favored in the iF product design awards. No fusion, no retro, no ‘pretending’: Only those who recognize product simplicity and ease of operation can be successful in the long term and help shape the ‘new modernity’!” says Fritz Frenkler, chairperson of the jury. With 2,771 submissions from 35 countries around the world, the number of entries in the popular iF product design awards was up by 20.9% in 2008 compared to the prior year. 821 of them celebrated their iF product design award with the opportunity to participate in the Hanover exhibition. 50 of the 821 award winners received an iF gold award.
The underlying goal of design at Philips has always been to bridge the divide between people and technology, adapting technologies to meet people’s needs more effectively. Philips Design applies this belief to all areas and this year, products across the company’s three sectors – Consumer Lifestyle, Healthcare and Lighting – have received iF product design awards.
