Philips celebrates one million Digital PhotoFrames with the fusion of digital art and sophisticated style

Amsterdam, The Netherlands – Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE:PHG, AEX:PHI) celebrates the production of its millionth Digital PhotoFrame by announcing a special presentation exclusive to IFA 2007.  ArtDisplay, the French company that creates dynamic, digital artwork especially for flat screens, is providing Philips with four astonishing images to be shown exclusively on the 9 -inch Digital PhotoFrame showcased at IFA.

Working with ArtDisplay, Philips brings an additional element to the Consumer Electronics space. The dynamic images from ArtDisplay add imaginative style to Philips sophisticated consumer solutions.  They’re brought to life on the PhotoFrame’s high resolution pixel display.

“The millionth Digital PhotoFrame is a great milestone for Philips, and what better way to celebrate this accomplishment than through digital art,” said Rudy Provoost, Chief Executive Officer, Philips Consumer Electronics.  “We are excited to announce that these stylish images will be shown exclusively on our PhotoFrames at IFA.  Our alliance with ArtDisplay gives us the opportunity to bring high profile digital art into the consumer electronics realm.”

The term Digital Art covers many forms of artistic creations conceived and realised with a computer. The phenomenon originated as an artistic undercurrent in the 1980s and continues to improve with the extraordinary progression of computers and graphic software. What began as a simple technical performance has turned into a new art form which continually evolves.

Today, digital art is a major current of artistic expression in the contemporary art world and will continue to act as a one for years to come. Digital Art is engendering new innovative concepts such as “dynamic art*” which sets images into movement and gives digital creations the “breath of life” which the surrealists used to dream.

Displaying images in style
Featuring a range of sizes, the PhotoFrame is ideal for sharing images of friends and family. The high resolution LCD panel delivers images with the same sort of quality people expect from professional color photographs – without requiring a PC. The Perfect frame ratio feature also ensures that images are displayed optimally thanks to a 3:2 ratio (for 7 and 10-inch products). So unlike other Digital PhotoFrames the images do not get distorted when displayed.

The Digital PhotoFrame uses a high resolution LCD panel displaying a high pixel density active matrix, illuminating rich detail and vibrant colors. In addition to providing increased levels of sharpness, brightness and contrast, the Philips PhotoFrames offer perfect digital color, displaying a full spectrum of vibrant hues and shades.

The internal memory of the new 7- and 10-inch PhotoFrames are capable of storing up to 1,000 digital images; and downloading is easy with the option of saving pictures straight from a memory card or by simply connecting the device to a PC via a USB connector.

Convenient software for easily managing your photos and albums
The Digital PhotoFrame family includes software for easy editing and customization of favorite pictures.  The SmartAlbum allows users the ability to zoom and crop pictures, create and manage photo albums, and set up attractive transition effects for slideshows without the need for a PC.   Users can enjoy the fun of displaying multiple images on screen at the same time with a collage effect provided by PhotoFrame’s Slideshow Manager.

Convenient compatibility
Philips Digital PhotoFrame supports a multitude of memory card formats: compact flash (CF), secure digital (SD), secure digital SDHC, multimedia card (MMC), memory stick (MS, MS Pro), Memory Stick Duo (via adaptor), Memory Stick Pro Duo (via adaptor) and micros secure digital (via adaptor). When viewing digital photographs, users can select between landscape or portrait display to showcase images properly.

The 7-inch and 10-inch PhotoFrames are powered by an integrated rechargeable battery allowing users to display images on a shelf or mantelpiece, or passed around to show friends and family.

Continuing its drive to provide more sustainable products, Philips packaging for the Digital PhotoFrame is made of more than 98 percent of recyclable material to reduce the burden of final waste disposal.
